Friday Fave Five

stewbert does this and it seemed like a great idea, but i'm not sure i can come up with "fave five." doesn't hurt to try, tho; here goes.

1. I'm grateful for DH.

A. he's been "on session" at church for a year now, and it's amazing how it's changed him. i just talked with him about #1 son's ADHD problem, and we had the BEST conversation about what steps to take (get him evaluated), what to discuss, how to present it to him, how it's affecting him. it was amazing!

B. he's also been SUPER nice this time i'm pregnant. it's a totally different experience with a DH who doesn't send off "you lazy thing, this is all your fault" vibes. i credit his faith and growth with this, too. he's picked up all the slack i've left him (with first-trimester coma followed by two months of nasty colds, sinus infections, strep, and ear infections!).

2. I'm so glad i never have to do this again (see above for reasons)! I LOVE my babies and i'm thrilled to get another one - even more so that it's a girl. and i'm glad i get to hang up my fertility and feel finished and fulfilled after this pregnancy is over.

3. My job. i'druther be a SAHM, but if i have to work (and i do), it's a fulfilling, challenging job, that i do from home so i'm here for my neurotic babies who can't cope without me. yeah, i'm bored and frustrated at times. but i like it mostly.

4. my neurotic babies who can't cope without me. shoot, if your kids can't be needy and let you exercise your nurturing and patience, who can? and damn, i've changed since i've had kids.

5. my big family and friends. y'all keep me from going completely bonkers with this stupid job that keeps me home all the time without human adult social interaction! electronic will just hafta do for now. we have birthdays all year, what with 6 sibs and spouses, plus 14 grandchildren after miriam pops out. so i'm always thinking of someone. *snif* and missing them, but that's life in the modern world. at least we have electronics!

i did it!

OMG!

i just took an "ADHD questionnaire" on behalf of #1 son. we've wondered for some time if he has some trouble with this.

he scored 28 - "very severe ADHD behaviors."

gee, are we stupid or what? we've wondered if this could be affecting him, but never thought he really had it. well, DH was certain he didn't (when did he get HIS psych degree?), and i wondered, repeatedly, but didn't want to fight about it.

time to get down and nasty, i guess.

here's the link to the questionnaire: https://healthmanager.webmd.com/webmd/advHQ/GuestUser.aspx?StartID=1003

now i'll see if MY symptoms apply!

addendum: mine were in the "mild" category; may not be due to ADHD. of course, if you checked ANY boxes, you got mild. so i'm pretty comfortable with my current psychiatric state!

some days it just doesn't pay to chew through the leather straps.

addendum 2: appointment scheduled for 3/1/07 - will keep posted at this space!

i love thursdays

it's almost friday, you can taste the weekend. (of course, i work half a day saturday to get my hours in for the week, but it's still the weekend!)

my newspaper puts in all the fun stuff on thursday (news of the weird, lipstick mystic, advice goddess). it's the light at the end of the tunnel!

thursday is almost better than friday around here. of course, thursday "the 12th" is always worse than friday "the 13th" for me. does this show a trend?

*********

i have a black computer keyboard, with half the letters rubbed off due to my extreme typing speed and hours spent. i also have a silver sharpie. i finally got the two together two days ago and wrote the letters back on.

isn't sharpie supposed to last forever????? cuz the letters are GONE again. except X - i guess it takes a little longer. maybe i should mark all of the keys "X"!

it's a pain b/c all of the keys on the bottom are barely there. i have a Z, a B, and a question mark, and a fragment of a comma. if i'm editing and trying to insert punctuation with my left hand while i arrow around with my right, i end up with M's all over the place instead of commas.

perhaps a new keyboard? right after i get enough maternity clothes i don't have to do the wash every other day.

joke du jour 2/7

HOW TO INSTALL A HOME SECURITY SYSTEM

1. Go to a second-hand store and buy a pair of men's used size 14-16 work Boots.

2. Place them on your front porch, along with several empty beer cans, a copy of Guns & Ammo magazine, and several NRA magazines.

3. Put a few giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazine.

4. Leave a note on your door that reads: Hey Bubba, Big Jim, Duke and Slim: I went to the Gun shop for more ammunition, back in an hour. Don't mess with the pit bulls -- they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up real bad. I don't think Killer took part in it, but it was hard to tell from all the blood.

PS - I locked all four of 'em in the house.

Better wait outside.

i love my sister

i love both my sisters, and refer to my sisters-in-law most often as sisters, but today i love my older sister best, and i'll tell you why.

you may recall i phoned her sat. crying about not being able to find anything to wear. she promised to send me what she had from her last pregnancy.

my dear sister called me yesterday morning, despite being terribly sick with a nasty sinus infection. she'd already boxed up the clothes, and needed to confirm my zip code (since our modern life doesn't use snailmail addresses most of the time!). then she called back yesterday p.m. to tell me she'd been too sick to get to the post office, apologized, and promised to get it out today. what a woman!

if it were me, i'd still be thinking about getting my slack-ass (term thanks to my new fave, jill: http://www.sweetpotatoqueens.com/) up to look at the clothes, and wondering where i'd find a box. i'd probably just run on down to the UPS store with a bag full of stuff. they keep track of my life for me - you can go in with three bags of stuff, and they'll package it and ship it and have the addresses on file the next time you go. i love the UPS store. it's too damn expensive, but i don't care. http://www.theupsstore.com/?ysmwa=vYjvaqTbkEDPgT2i6eOIwj-ji4tL_B2FKmD13KJXL63Lc52Btf6KbIzXA8hVGvd_ (i've no idea why that tag is so long!)

anyway, i had to write a tribute to big sister, who loves me. hormonal women need to get their love where they can!

the bra rants continue

I had to go to the mall to get bras. you may recall, i hate going to the mall; it has been two years since i went.

"motherhood" has bras. you have to spend good money on bras. otherwise the floobies hurt like heck all the time.

they don't, however, have ANYTHING ELSE in plus sizes. they claim Sears carries their line in plus sizes. so i returned to the mall (!!!) to go to Sears Saturday.

Sears may carry the stuff, but they don't HAVE any. returned to motherhood to do the hormonal bitch thing. they say, they carry it, but not very much, and it sells through really fast.

my reply: "Do I LOOK like I have time to haunt Sears every five minutes to catch the plus-size clothes before they sell through?" Don't be sending hormonal women to Sears when you KNOW they're unlikely to have anything when they get there!

then i cried all the way to "once upon a child." where i found a shirt to cover my belly, with the skirt i bought last week, so i had something to wear to church. (hadn't been in a month, only partly b/c i had NOTHING TO WEAR!)

my dear sister is mailing me HER ugly maternity clothes so i can look awful but be covered. (her description) and i CAN get stuff online - but i don't have $$ to spend, or time to wait, to get SOMETHING on my belly. GR.

working on names

as soon as you tell people you're PG, they ask if you know the gender. (see separate rant on phrasing this wrong!) the second question is "have you thought of any names?"

well, no. you see, i thought i'd leave the birth certificate blank, and let the baby be known as "baby erdosy" throughout its life. or now that we do know, "baby girl erdosy." sheesh.

the problem with sharing names is that nobody ever likes your names. so they either have to lie, or offend you. mostly they choose the latter. and i'm equally guilty of telling people their names are terrible and they will doom their child for life to being a nose-picking bullied geek. (remember I-lish? sister LOVED that name)

so, here, we're thinking, we're arguing, and DH is caving as usual. JUST KIDDING! Tyler's name would have been emma rose, were he a girl, but i can't reuse a name. the day we found out, MIRIAM popped into my head. i don't think DH likes it a bit, but she can be Mirry or Mimi and it's pretty. plus a friend said she thinks it's a bit fey, where i was just associating it with old testament, and that makes me like it all the more! (i'm a pixie inside)

DH proposed BRIANNA, then realized he'd pulled it straight out of the Outlander books (http://www.dianagabaldon.com/). being as they're my fave of all time (maybe more than Harry Potter!), i'm perfectly at peace with this. but i like miriam better. #1 son was almost Brian, and i don't dislike the name.

with either of those, Angela would be the middle name. #1 son has been lobbying for a baby sister he can name Angel for YEARS.

we've also talked about Erica, and Katelen, and they're not off the list, either. we take a short list to the hospital. so now you know.

thanks a lot, alana

by Merriam-Webster

You're one of those know-it-all types, with an amazing amount of
knowledge at your command. People really enjoy spending time with you in very short
spurts, but hanging out with you for a long time tends to bore them. When folks
really need an authority to refer to, however, you're the one they seek. You're an

alana put me in the mood...

BE AWARE!!!!

I don't how many of you shop at Sam's Club or Costco, but this may be useful to know. I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. This happened to me and it could happen to you!!

Here's how the scam works: Two seriously good-looking 23-year-old well-built guys come over to your car as you are packing your shopping in the trunk. They both are shirtless and start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their highly-defined chest muscles and rock-hard abs exposed. It's impossible not to look.

When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'No' and instead ask you for a ride to another Sam's Club or Costco. You agree and they get in the back seat. On the way, they start talking dirty about what they want to do to you. Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and begins kissing your neck and begs you to pull over so he can make love to you!!

While this is going on the other guy steals your purse!!

I had my purse stolen last Tuesday, Wednesday, twice on Thursday, again on Saturday, and also yesterday and most likely tomorrow.

I'm running out of purses....

(thanks to stu's friend kip!)

quote for the day

in the comics section today, almost good enough to rival my Brenda Ueland quote (see yellow under Q below) as "fave":

7 strange things

apparently, i'm it; but i don't know 7 people to pass this on to, and the one i do know, my sister stole when she tagged me! so if you want to participate, just comment so and we'll come see your answers!

THE RULES (for those who care): Each player of this game starts with the '7 weird things about you.' People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 7 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 7 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says 'you are tagged' in their comments and tell them to read your blog.

just name 7 strange things about you.

1. birthmarks. i have a scattering of brown spots across my back just over my bum. now they have a bruise/tattoo in there with them since my car accident/back injury in 2002.

2. have you dated anyone outside your ethnicity? my first boyfriend was indian/japanese. very self-confident person, which is why he was my first boyfriend; nobody else asked me out. i'm just too smart AND hot, i terrified all the little boys i met before i was 18!

3. my friends and i used to "kidnap" boys (with their mothers' permission and cooperation) from their beds at dawn and drive up to the mountains (15 minutes) for a picnic breakfast (age 17/18). (think this was why i scared them?) piled 8 or 9 people into my tiny datsun F10.

4. i love to play the sims, make people who get to look the way they want with just mouse clicks, do what they want without responsibility crippling them, all different rules - it's a great fantasy world!

5. i also like to make avatar/dolls at elouai/candybar dollmaker. (click on my current doll to go to the site to make your own.) this freaks my friend alana out, which is why my doll is titled "how to freak alana out!"

6. i never go to the mall. went for maternity bras last week, first time in probably 2 years. i hit target and sam's at least once a week (target usually 2 or 3), and know all of the staff there. too well, according to my SIL.

7. i can't think of weird things about myself, but that's pretty much the definition of me; quirky! just found one - i love icyhot or similar products rubbed into my shoulders, but if it even TOUCHES my neck skin, i have to go wash it off IMMEDIATELY; it hurts!

tag! any viewers - you're it!

IT'S A GIRL!

we have a winner! we are officially having a baby girl! i'm so freaking excited!

baby is modest and wouldn't show the goods at first. the tech kept going back and checking. she finally moved her legs and we found no turtles there! (web term for boy genitals)

lucky me - i also have placenta previa. OB says 90% of the time they move on their own, so don't worry about C-section now. but pelvic rest until the next ultrasound - 9 or 10 weeks from now. (if it's still low, they'll do another, and then i think they schedule the C-section if it's still low that late.)

no worries anyway - i don't do labor without pitocin, so small chance of rupture. anyway - i'm having a girl baby, so i don't care if i have to have surgery to get her out!

everything is where it should be, so it's all good! may publish u/s photo later...

21 hours

i'm a hopeless nut case! but i'm SO excited!

hahahahaha

Two elderly women were out driving in a large car - both could barely see over the dashboard. As they were cruising along, they came to an intersection. The stoplight was red, but they just went on through.

The woman in the passenger seat thought to herself, I must be losing it. I could have sworn we just went through a red light.

After a few more minutes, they came to another intersection and the light was red again. Again, they went right through.

The woman in the passenger seat was almost sure that the light had been red, but was really concerned that she was losing it. She was getting nervous.

At the next intersection, sure enough, the light was red and they went on through. So she turned to the other woman and said, "Mildred, did you know that we just ran through three red lights in a row? You could have killed us both!"

Mildred turned to her and said, "Crap, am I driving?!"

only 4 more days!

more accurately, close to 3-1/2. i'm close to counting down hours!

Thursday, January 25, 2007

i love coffee.

i drink it every day. i tried to quit when i got KU, but my OB told me to stop trying to be SuperMom and that it is fine to drink in moderation. so i pulled my slack-ass off the couch and brewed a pot.

i buy coffee from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (http://www.greenmountaincoffee.com/) - fair trade, organic, delicious coffee. and i'm happy every day when i brew it up or heat it up and drink it.

a few weeks ago, DH came home with a giant bag of bargain-brand coffee. he was just as pleased as a puppy with himself.

it's vile. it smells like cigarette ash.

but being another BrokeGirl (go to www.womenswallstreet.com/ for the REAL BG's articles), i put on my game face and drink it.

and i've discovered a trick to making cheap coffee palatable, if not "good." add a few drops of real vanilla extract to the cup. (in fact, if I'M brewing it, i add a couple of shots to the basket.) it cuts the bitterness right down to tolerable.

now my goal is to drink the nasty stuff as fast as possible so we can buy more of the good stuff. counting the days!

PMP 1/24

Aunt Bessie loved to visit her nieces and nephews. However, she had relatives all over the country. The problem was that no matter how much she enjoyed seeing them, she was scared of flying.

No matter how safe people told her it was, she was always worried that someone would have a bomb on the plane. She read books about how safe it was and listened to the stewardess demonstrate all the safety features. But she still worried herself silly every time a visit was coming up.

Finally, the family decided that maybe if she saw the statistics she'd be convinced. So they sent her to a friend of the family who was an actuary.

"Tell me," she said suspiciously, "what are the chances that someone will have a bomb on a plane?"

The actuary looked through his tables and said, "A very small chance. Maybe one in five hundred thousand."

She nodded, then thought for a moment. "So what are the odds of two people having a bomb on the same plane?"

Again he went through his tables.

"Extremely remote," he said. "About one in a billion."

Aunt Bessie nodded and left his office.

And from that day on, every time she flew, she took a bomb with her.

need a laugh!

Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting.

Well, for example, the other day I was in town and went into a shop. I was only in there for about 5 minutes. When I came out there was a cop writing out a parking ticket.

I walked up to him and said, "How about giving a senior citizen a break?"

He ignored me and continued writing the ticket.

I called him a Nazi.

He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tires.

So, I called him a Terrorist.

He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket.

This went on for about 20 minutes. The more I abused him, the more tickets he wrote.

Personally, I didn't care. I came into town on the park-n-ride bus and the car had a "Hillary for President" bumper sticker.

I try to have a little fun each day now that I'm retired.

It's important at my age.

Monday update (on Tuesday)

(1/22) i've been negligent for a few weeks, busy Monday mornings!

16w2d

PROS: feeling very comfortable as far as pregnancy goes. no longer in first trimester coma. only EIGHT (now SEVEN) days until big ultrasound, VERY excited. and the things that really matter are keeping up.

CONS: still waiting on the 2nd tri energy! i've had a cold (or two or three) for going on 6 weeks now. DH is worn out taking care of the family while i sleep... haven't even started getting ready for baby - haven't gotten Christmas decor down, nobody has any energy! (but the things that REALLY matter are being kept up.) can't wait to feel WELL.

(1/23) i got some antibiotics for strep throat today, so let's all hope this is the end of the run of sickness and the beginning of feeling triffic!

#2 son had a minor procedure this morning to remove a splinter that went all the way under his thumbnail to the back of it. he was very brave. of course, i didn't tell him there would be a needle, and i didn't let him watch. then we both went for a coke for our nervous tummies.

the van broke down again last week, but apparently it only needed a stern talking-to and a time-out. the mechanic couldn't find the problem. it would click once, then start. it did this once for the mechanic, then straightened up and stopped giving me grief! i'm very relieved as a new starter is NOT in the budget! starting an emergency fund IS - and quite necessary, as i'll have several big bills with baby, starting in march.

enough news - let me go find a good joke for today!

red lifesavers

just a stray thought...

so many people love red flavored candy etc. and i can't stand it most of the time. i've ALWAYS hated cherry-flavored anything - i only like FRESH cherries. no cherry pie for this girl - yuck!

and it was a few years ago that i figured out why. this is one of my BEST "most embarrassing" stories (i'll tell you about the foreign exchange student another day).

i was probably 8 or 9. the dentist had given mom fluoride pills b/c our water wasn't fluoridated. she put them up on the refrigerator. they were TINY little pink pills, and i REALLY liked how they tasted. they were "raspberry" flavored (but didn't affect my appetite for berries, go figure!).

so, one day, i took it upon myself to climb up on the counter, get those pills, and ate a handful. it's amazing i didn't poison myself. well, i ate about half, then i started feeling sick and put the rest back. but i must've eaten 20 or more. and didn't tell mom b/c i didn't want to get in trouble. (an ER visit would have ensued, i realize in retrospect.)

after that i never liked cherry flavoring. i bet i wouldn't like that fake raspberry flavor either, but these days if it's raspberry flavored, it's REAL.

now i'm nauseous. i hope you appreciate my sacrifice for my blog!

LOL 1/19

A drunk man smelling of booze sat down on a subway next to a priest. The man's tie was stained, his face was plastered with red lipstick, and a half-empty bottle of gin was sticking out of his torn coat pocket. He opened his newspaper and began reading.

After a few minutes the manturned to the priest and asked, "Say Father, what causes arthritis?"

The priest replies, "My Son, it's caused by loose living, being with cheap, wicked women, too much alcohol, contempt for your fellow man, sleeping around with prostitutes and lack of a bath."

The drunk muttered in response "Well, I'll be damned," then returned to his paper.

The priest, thinking about what he had said, nudged the man and apologized. "I'm very sorry. I didn't mean to come on so strong. How long have you had arthritis?"

The drunk answered, "I don't have it, Father. I was just reading here that the Pope does."

ROFLMAO!

i can't believe i just did this.

hormone head strikes again...

we're in NC, and we've had balmy weather up until now. sleet/freezing rain forecast for this morning.

so i get up and check the news station's website, closings. we live in forsyth county; i see "forsyth" and "opens at 10 a.m."

so i put my kids back to bed and ignored them.

the bus just went up the road. DH comes in and says what-up??? then i remember - it's "winston-salem/forsyth county schools." check the website. we're on time; it's a private school, "forsyth country day school," that's starting at 10.

I could just cry. they have to get ready in 10 minutes b/c #2 has testing this week, HAS to be there. and _I_ made him go back to bed! i feel so bad. somebody hug me!

weird dreams

here's a weirdy: we've been watching friends reruns, and phoebe's pregnant with the triplets.

last night i dreamed that the triplets were for a lady in our church (who has two daughters, 7 and 9, and no need for triplets!). she couldn't pick them up as soon as they were born, so my mom and i were watching them (mom and i live 3000 miles apart).

it was actually a really neat experience, playing with those babies, and for some reason they could crawl and talk a little and try to walk (but they were newborns, just acting 9 months old or something). they were all different sizes, too. we really enjoyed playing with them and taking care of them.

maybe i've been worried about all the work involved in new babies, and needed to remember all the rewarding parts, the play and the learning. whatever, last night i enjoyed my dreams!

anyone else having freaky dreams?

time to laugh!

A mother calls 911, very worried, asking the dispatcher if she needs to take her kid to the emergency room; the kid was eating ants. The dispatcher tells her to give the kid some Benadryl and it should be fine.

The mother says, I just gave him some ant killer.

Dispatcher: Rush him in to emergency room!

Life is tough.

It's tougher if you're stupid.

daily giggle 1/11

One day a professor was discussing a particularly complicated concept with his pre-med students. A student rudely interrupted to ask, "Why do we have to learn this pointless information?"

"To save lives," the professor responded quickly, and continued the lecture.

A few minutes later, the same student spoke up again. "So how does physics save lives?" he persisted.

"It keeps the ignoramuses like you out of medical school," replied the professor.

this one ALWAYS makes me laugh. :D

14w4d update

boobies went up another size today (see previous bra rants)!. GR!

only 20 more days until we find out gender of baby-to-be!

joke du jour 1/10

A huge corporation recently hired several cannibals.

"You are all part of our team now", said the HR rep during the welcoming briefing. "You get all the usual benefits and you can go to the cafeteria for something to eat, but please don't eat any of our employees."

The cannibals promised they would not.

Four weeks later the HR rep called them together and remarked, "You're all working very hard and we're satisfied with your work. However, one of our secretaries has disappeared. Do any of you know what happened to her?"

The cannibals all shook their heads 'No.' After the HR rep had left the room, the leader of the cannibals said to the others, "OK - which one of you idiots ate the secretary?"

A hand rose hesitantly.

"You fool!" the leader continued. "For four weeks we've been eating managers, and no one noticed anything. But NOOOooo, you had to go and eat someone who actually does something!!!"

enjoying new blogger!

this is so cool. i got to add links, which are some of my favorite places to visit daily or at least more than once a week. and getting to the posting page is faster. why wouldn't you have a blog of your own?

possibly because work beckons and we all must heed its summons? well, i think fast and type fast, so you get the real me. and you get it faster now with the "new" blogger! having a grand old time!

**************

update on week 14: i've got energy back! the evil cold is leaving, slowly and reluctantly, but definitely leaving. not really feeling pregnant, but the long list of things that must be done before baby comes is no longer quite as intimidating as it was during the first-trimester coma! and best of all: at visit this week, scheduled ultrasound for 1/30! only 24 more days until we know the gender of our newest arrival-to-be! can't wait!

another in the same theme

A woman was at work when she received a phone call that her daughter was very sick with a fever. She left her work and stopped by the pharmacy toget some medication. When she got back to her car, she found that she had locked her keys in the car.

She didn't know what to do, so she called home and told the baby sitter what had happened. The baby sitter told her that the fever was getting worse. She said, "You might find a coat hanger and use that to open the door."

The woman looked around and found an old rusty coat hanger that had been left on the ground, possibly by someone else who at some time had locked their keys in their car. She looked at the hanger and said, "I don't know how to use this." She bowed her head and asked God to send her help.

Within five minutes a beat-up old motorcycle pulled up, with a dirty, greasy, bearded man who was wearing an old biker skull rag on his head. The woman thought, "This is what you sent to help me?"

The man got off of his cycle and asked if he could help.

She said, "Yes, my daughter is very sick. I stopped to get her some medication and I locked my keys in my car. I must get home to her. Please, can you use this hanger to unlock my car?"

He said, "Sure." He walked over to the car, and in less than a minute the car was opened.

She hugged the man and through her tears she said, "Thank You So Much! You are a very nice man."

The man replied, "Lady, I am not a nice man. I just got out of prison today. I was in prison for car theft and have only been out for about an hour."

The woman hugged the man again and with tears cried out loud,"Oh, thank you God! You even sent me a professional!"

This and the grocery joke are hilarious, partly because you could see the germ of truth in their reactions! and the Hand of God is something we can't say didn't do these things. so laugh, because they're funny! and pray, because we want to stay on His good side.

As Damon Wayans said, when asked if there was anything he WOULDN'T crack jokes about (such as handicapped people, etc.), he said "I don't make any God jokes, because I don't want God making any Damon Wayans jokes!" I love that attitude.

non sequitur

i can't believe i've had a blog for two years! if you read my archived first entries, they were saved thoughts i'd had about "if i had a blog." i think they're some of my funniest ones (at least that aren't jokes)!

give me a comment to help me celebrate my two years with blogger! and i've just upgraded to google, so looking forward to the next two years! (i couldn't get through my day without google.)

a giggle a day 1/4

Every morning, a woman stood on her porch and shouted "Praise the Lord!"

Every morning, the atheist in the house across from her shouted back, "There is no Lord!"

One day, when the woman is out on her porch she says, "Dear God, I'm hungry. Please send me groceries."

The next day, when she goes out to her porch, she sees a huge bag of groceries on her doorstep. "Praise the Lord!" she shouts.

"Aha!" says the neighbour, stepping out from the bushes. "This is proof that there's no God: I brought those groceries myself."

"Praise the Lord!" says the woman again. "Not only did the Lord send the groceries, he made the devil pay for them."

joke du jour 1/2/07

A bus carrying only ugly people crashes into an oncoming truck and everyone inside dies. When they get to meet their maker, because of the grief they have experienced, he decides to grant them one wish each before they enter Heaven.

They're all lined up, and God asks the first one what their wish is. "I want to be gorgeous." So God snaps His fingers, and it is done. The second one in line hears this and says, "I want to be gorgeous too." Another snap of His fingers and the wish is granted.

This goes on for a while with each one asking to be gorgeous, but when God is halfway down the line, the last guy in the line starts laughing. When there are only ten people left, this guy is rolling on the floor, laughing his head off.

Finally, God reaches this last guy and asks him what his wish will be. The guy eventually calms down and says:

"Make 'em all ugly again."

So, the next time you are last in line...smile!

my annual bra rant

i was just scrolling through/reviewing old posts, and noticed my bra rant came through in Dec. 04 and Nov. 05. well, i'm due then, aren't i?

i've been angry about them for days/weeks now. as you know, i'm knocked up. and, well, my boobies are VERY knocked up! i'm overflowing my bras when i wear the ones that make me look well-endowed. then they're rather graphic.

the dang things ached from day of ovulation for months on end and still do intermittently. i got them sports bras. they got better and i put them into their favorites, and they overflow. if i ever have two 20's to rub together, i'm gonna head to motherhood and pick up a couple of industrial-strength bras.

until then - i remain Deep in Thought

update #2

well, i got a reply from my first person mentioned below:

"remove me from the list I don't feel that the [deleted] board is for me anymore. I think one person went over the line on a PERSONAL issue that I am dealing with. I have every right to have my feelings, and to say that I don't is un called for. I was not telling someone that their opinion was wrong, I was saying that their information was wrong and to jump to conclusions was wrong on her part.

"OHH [sister] how is RJD...my 2.5 year old going to help me? he can't you obviously don't know what you are talking about. And obvioulsly you need some education to learn a few things. You THINK you know me and you don't, you can't and don't know my every thought. I cannot and will not be talking to you until you realize that what YOU were telling me was fueling the fire.
don't mean to bring this up here, but this is the LAST post I will make on this thread. REMOVE me from the group, I found a support group that is helping me not telling me to do something that I KNOW I DONT NEED. "

*************

and i'm afraid my reply to her was less kind than my earlier post:

"i'm truly sorry you feel that way, and that you can't see that your extreme negativity is hurting you as well as those around you. it's interesting that you prefer that support group when you are attacking people's replies to you there - but selectively - if one person says you could use help, it's ok, but if another does, they are subject to your rants and attacks. if you keep attacking the support group you've found, they will not continue supporting you, as i commented there.

"i have seen such a consistent negative energy from you that i am very concerned about your wellbeing. however, i will honor your wishes and remove your from the mommy list. i will also block your posts as your negative energy and comments have more than once impacted my own mood severely.

"I have dealt with depression for many years and i do know a thing or two, but you may believe i know nothing if you prefer to do so. medication and counseling have helped millions, but if you believe they will do nothing for you, they will not, as you refuse to try. having tried one antidepressant means absolutely nothing about whether they can help you now.

"i'd like to think that being thus frank and blunt with you will make an impact and you will hear my words as well as the honest emotion behind it hoping your situation will improve. but i don't expect it to.

"it's a shame you condemn an entire group based on one or two people in it. that's why they have an "ignore user" button, so you can ignore people who irritate you."

well, i'm not thinking about this anymore right now. i'm really worried about her, her sister says her husband is very concerned, worried about her children and his, but clearly she will not accept help. i guess i'll just have to pray for her. that would probably irritate her, too!

update

after i posted my comment, i checked back several times to see if this person had noticed it. nothing.

however, in a separate area/board, her SISTER posts that she's been involved in this crazy sitch, and she's glad she's not the only who has seen the pattern - referring to MY post!

i wasn't sure whether to post it or not, but i'm glad i did, if only so one person could see it and know they're not crazy. i'm glad she let me know that i also am not crazy.

apparently it was sister, not in-law, and she's also PG. and the first person did not mention the nasty word she hurled at her - beginning with C and _I'VE_ never said it!

so, i'm hearing two different sides, and one is refraining from getting into it, and the other can't stop screaming. you know which side i'm going to sympathize with!

ps - it's her SIXTH child, not fifth. just do not understand this mentality at all. _I_ was upset to find i was having boys, more so the first time than the second. but you're not in charge!

pulling my hair out

i spend WAY too much of my day in online rooms. i've been at webMD for a couple of years now, and i've been in the trying to conceive room and now the pregnancy rooms for most of this year.

most of the people are extremely supportive and tolerant of differences. sometimes they get advice they don't like, which they will explain why they aren't taking it, or just ignore it.

but you have to get one bad apple in the bunch. this girl is so DAMN negative i have previously clicked "ignore user" so i wouldn't have to read her bitchy posts. she's a or two month ahead of me in her pregnancy. she used to whine all the time, then complain that people weren't replying to HER posts, and that must be personal. PLEASE! the only reason it would be personal is b/c she's such a monster.

she's been venting for some time about EVERYTHING. venting is a good thing. when people offer suggestions, you should be grateful, even if they're not what you want to hear. and we're all hormonal.

well, she found out what gender baby she's having (her fifth, think she'd be used to not being in charge by now!), and she is psychotic over it. told her sister-in-law how very upset she was, and SIL talked to MIL and discussed CPS, b/c chickie is seriously going off.

sure, everybody vents. and i wouldn't go so far as CPS. but her in-laws are trying to get her to see she's more upset than is normal and that she should get/accept some help.

any reply to her tirade that suggested she could use some counseling or medication to help the sitch was met with virulent opposition. she was yelling at the people who were trying to help her - further confirming in MY mind that she NEEDED it.

i just can't cope with this kind of person. i'm emotionally dependent on my chat rooms as they are most of my adult interaction throughout the day, but this one child in an adult's body is ruining it for me! and i have to maintain cordial relationships b/c i run the "mommy list" we're both on.

well, i'll have to reply some of my thoughts from here (see two paragraphs up), and see how she responds. i'd probably do better to keep my mouth shut, but that's just not me!

ADDENDUM: WHAT I SAID:

i'd probably do better to keep my mouth shut, but that's just not me!

everybody vents. your in-laws' reactions were extreme and went too far when they said the word/letters "CPS."

but most of the people here are extremely supportive, and tolerant of differences. it's one of the reasons i love my webMD message boards. i didn't see anyone giving you anything but positive messages and suggestions. whether you agree or not, i was shocked by your reaction to people who are trying to help you.

i have to say that your replies to people's suggestions and offerings only confirmed in my mind that you do need some kind of help.

you do have every right to be mad [her words], and every right to disagree. but the level you've taken this to is unhealthy, and you're not handling things well.

we're all hormonal, and we all overreact sometimes. and i'd like to think that's what is going on. and i WAS glad to see that you know you're in a bad place, and that should it continue, you know to seek help.

please give your fellow preggos the benefit of the doubt and stop accusing people of "always" giving you negative feedback or singling you out for negative treatment. nobody here is doing that to my experience, and this isn't the first time i've read your posts complaining of that.
we're all here to support one another - it goes both ways. we want you to come to a peaceful place about this baby, whatever gender it comes out with. and we want you here, to share in the support and love that goes around. (((big hugs)))

joke of the day 12/28/06

This duck walks into a convenience store and asks the clerk, "Do you have any grapes?"

The clerk says no, and the duck leaves.

The next day, the duck returns and asks, "Do you have any grapes?"

The clerk again says no, and the duck leaves.

The day after that, the duck walks in the store again and asks "Do you have any grapes?"

The clerk screams at the duck, "You've come in here the past two days and asked if we had any grapes. I told you no every time that we don't have any grapes! I swear if you come back in here again, and ask for grapes, I'll nail your webbed feet to the floor!!"

The duck left, and returned the next day. This time he asked, "Do you have any nails?"

The clerk replied, "No," and the duck said, "Good! Got any grapes?"

I've been Tagged!

It's a Christmas poll!

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Hot Chocolate. I still love eggnog, but prefer chocolate anything!
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? He wraps them.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? Colors. I'm never going to have the beautiful classy tree at the stores, I'm going to have a real tree (ok, fake), with mixed up ornaments and kids helping.
4. Do you hang mistletoe? No.
5. When do you put your decorations up? Whenever we get the energy after Thanksgiving. I did put jingle bells on the doorknobs early this year, I was so excited (i.e. before Thanksgiving!).
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? cranberry relish is my first thought. I think we're going to have Chinese for Christmas dinner this year as I have to work.
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? looking at the Christmas lights with my glasses off/contacts out (they're all blurry and beautiful that way).
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? Don't remember. I wasn't especially young.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? We didn't when I was young, but my family started opening them after I moved out. I really don't like to; it's not Christmas yet! To yield to the urges of others, I buy jammies for my kids and let them open those on Christmas Eve (from Grandma and Papa).
10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? I contract it out to the children, who enjoy it thoroughly!
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? Didn't move to NC twice for joy of snow. Would be happy to never see snow again.
12. Can you ice skate? Yes, but DH can't (can't rollerskate either), so haven't in many moons.
13. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Family visits and games and good times together. I love the church traditions and carols too.
14. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? #1 son loves sweet potato pie any time, so we eat it on the holidays. otherwise - fudge! or spritz cookies.
15. What is your favorite holiday tradition? I like to look at the lights. DH isn't as enthused. A local park puts up thousands of lights and charges to drive through; we're going tonight for #2 son's birthday celebration.
16. Which do you prefer giving or receiving? Giving; receiving is usually more disappointing if you rely on it for your joy.
17. What are favorite Christmas Songs? Oh Come (Oh Come) Emanuel, The Angel Gabriel from heaven Came (Sting did this one!) - most all of them. every time I look in the hymn book I find more I wish we sang more often.

NOT complaining today!

i'm finally feeling better! the fatigue is ebbing - and so is my sinus infection! i tried to fight it off myself, but thursday i finally called the OB, told them how long i'd been sick, that my GP normally phones in a prescription but wouldn't b/c i was pregnant, and THEY phoned in a Z-PAK.

friday morning i was already beginning to feel better. that zithromax is good stuff!

i got presents wrapped sat. (except one of brother's, so i haven't been to UPS yet. today for sure!) and cookies baked sun., fudge set. #1 son is begging me to make more fudge - i offered him the spoon to lick, and he declined, said he didn't like fudge. i said try a little taste, it's good, just chocolate chips and a little more stuff. so he tasted and his eyes widened. we have the beginnings of another fudge addict here!

the baking so far is for gifties, so hopefully we'll get another batch made after sister-in-law leaves for northern regions with those.

i'm so glad and grateful to be feeling better! merry christmas everyone!

this may not be up for long

but i gotta vent.

i've been exhausted to the point of growing roots on my couch (being a potato) since getting KU. since i'm 11 weeks tomorrow, that's 8 to 9 weeks of nothing much getting done around here. it's finally lifted somewhat. and then i got the sinus infection last week, which made things worse/not improve.

if i don't work (which i totally couldn't), i don't get paid. don't know about the rest of you! so here i am, don't know how i'm paying the mortgage, don't know how i'm getting through the month (except i can buy food if i don't pay the mortgage, so there ya go). i've already charged the mortgage twice this year due to financial circumstances, any my cards are all maxed now. getting through the next month looks fun - not!

pray for some aid to come my way, will you?

to be fair, DH won't let me ask for help until the sitch is dire, so guess what? i asked today, and DH doesn't have to know. i had hinted, but that's not the same as asking, as mom was quick to reply. she's calling me later.

somebody hug me!

ineeda mary kay meeting

yeah, i'm cracking myself up, too. :p

way back when i started selling Mary Kay, i was a negative person, with negative energy. they taught me to rephrase and rework my energy and find positives in most everything. i lost a LOT of money, but i had tremendous personal growth, and felt good about my MK experiences. i also felt good about quitting and selling Pampered Chef instead, since it's more "me."

well, i thought i'd won that fight and i was a positive person now. but i'm just getting more and more negative lately. and i'm blaming hormones. i don't care if they're fully responsible or not, but i'm blaming them! since i got PG, i'm more moody, less patient, irritable, and negative. i give myself negative messages all the time and i'm closer to depression than i like to be. gr!

this is supposed to be a HAPPY time. moody, yeah; emotional, yeah; but happy! it's just not fair that i should be downer than i've been in years.

ah well. should i be right and it's hormones, they'll leave eventually, and the parasite will be a leech instead of an internal organism. (shut up. i don't care if those are negative words to use for a positive person whom i'll love with my whole heart. just cuz i know that doesn't mean those words aren't an accurate description.)

don't comment if you don't have nice things to say. gr. i need some positive energy! and hugs.

update - 9 weeks 5 days

(i didn't want to make it seem like it had only been a week since the last update. LOL.)

saw dr. again yesterday. she had some suggestions for the fatigue that has plagued me the last month! she said i shouldn't keep trying to be superwoman and to DRINK SOME DAMN COFFEE! at which i was much relieved and am actually alert for a while today. who'da thunk? it also helps with the bloat as it stimulates digestive function, to put it politely. of course, that makes me hungry again... but i have healthy snacks and can make good choices.

the nutritionist had great ideas for eating a balanced diet; she said even if i'm eating something that's not exactly 100% healthy, it's ok; just balance the plate with other healthier choices, and control portion size. that sounds SO much easier than trying to eat broiled chicken and steamed veg. every night!

we heard the heartbeat with Doppler, which is awesome! it's very early to be able to do that! dr. also said i'd likely feel fetal movement before my next visit, as this is my third trip down the baby aisle.

i'd been falling into a depressive slump; too much fatigue, not enough work hours, yielding very low income, which increases the depression and fatigue and feeds itself on a nasty cycle. i actually visited with the neighbor and a church lady neighbor yesterday, in addition to my two health-care visits (nutritionist and OB), and i'm feeling MUCH more chipper today. so, in addition to putting caffeine back in my daily regimen, and walking, i'm planning adult human interaction more frequently to keep me off my slide into depression. and i feel very positive today!

can't wait to see my little beaner! won't happen until about Feb., but that's really not long.

vent

i'm bored and restless and i want to cry all the time, but i never have time. i'd probably feel better if i did, but every time i cry (which is infrequent), my kids get all panicked.

I want my mommy!

I hate sitting at my desk and working and we're broke b/c i've been SO exhausted the last month. seriously broke. christmas will be mighty lean!

somebody give me a pity party so i can get over feeling this way?
